Question:

Honda CRV 2002 needs stronger rear suspension!

With heavy loads and towing, the back end keeps bottoming out. A friend of mine suggested the Air Lift 1000 (coil over air bag), this would be PERFECT but they do not make it for the '02 CRV. I DO NOT want to replace my suspension with stiffer shocks. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Hangin' Low

  1. Well the reason that is happening is cause the CR-V wasn't meant to haul all that much. It's a small SUV, at most comfortable for 5 people and a couple boards or something if you can get them on top. Not really meant for carrying heavy loads and towing all that much. That's more what the Honda Ridgeline is capable of doing. An air bag system, i wouldn't really recommend that on a CR-V, maybe look into doing a small lift or something, but don't put all that money into an air bag kit. The 02 CR-V is only rated at 1,500 lbs. Which is not much at all..

  2. I bet if you look hard enough, you could get a "universal" air bag kit for the rear of your SUV.  First place I would check is a local customizing shop.  They probably have already done something similar and would be able to help you out.  Keep in mind, adding airbags will add some weight to the car, due to the compressor and air reserve tank.  Good luck with your customizations!
