Which of these would be better as a daily driver? Which one has a smoother ride and just plain easier and more fun to drive around in every day?

  1. Either one would be the same. The Mazda will be quicker than the Honda cause of the 60hp difference but Iv driven both and there both fun cars to drive.

  2. More fun??  The Mazdaspeed3.  A full second quicker to 60 than the Si...and it is has more space being a hatchback.

The Si is better on gas, but if you are looking for MPGs, you can go with the base version of each car.

But it is more of a personal reference.  I don't like the layout of the Civic, the digital gauges throw me off.  And it is a Civic.

The Mazdaspeed3 would be my pick.

  3. I was in the same boat in January and chose the MS3.

For 1500 more, you get 66 more HP, more versatility with the hatchback and you only give up about 2 mpg, on average.

I average about 26 combined city/highway, but occasionally can get near 30 mpg.

The MS3 does come with bigger tires (which are summer tires) and has a stiffer suspension.  It is closer to a true sports car.  You can get the Si with either all-season or summer 'performance' tires.

Both are very reliable and tested well.

Consumer reports rated the MS3 as it's 2nd pick in overall sporty cars behind only the BMW 135i.  The Civic Si finished 10th, but was also recommended.

If you do a lot of highway driving at a steady speed, the Civic may be more suitable for you.  If you really like to responsibly tear it up around town on the weekends, you will much prefer the MS3.

    Note that both require premium.

You really can't make a bad pick, here.

EDIT - 91 octane is required in the MS3 (Section 4-2 in owners manual).  Have to assume the Civic is the same since that engine is not turbocharged.

  4. I'd rather have the SI.
