My 05 Plate Honda Civic Type R recently started making a really loud rattling sound and the engine vibrates at low revs. So I checked the oil level and found that it was really low (Must have leaked). What kind of damage has my engine sustained and would servicing the car put it right?

Thanks!

  1. it is just a minor repair

  2. Assuming you have replaced the oil and still have loud rattling sounds, I would say you have done some serious damage. We are talking engine rebuild and big bucks.

  3. Most likely it sounds like u sustained some valve train problem running the engine low on oil and being the valve train is at the highest point it's easy to picture it gettn the least amount of oil. A lot of different things can happen from runnin an engine low on oil but I would prescribe a quick visit to a mechanic to have him look at it more carefully and run a few tests.
