Question:

Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla?

Right now I am 16 years old. I want to buy a car in early September. I have 3000 dollars and I am hoping to get 1500-2500 from my parents. They will pay for gas and insurance I just need to make car payments every month (I would like to put in 300 a month and hopefully pay it off in two years). I have been looking at two cars, a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. Which one, in your opinion, is better. And should I be looking at other cars besides these two? All I read on YA is Corolla and Civic, and that's all I see on the road, so I am assuming that these are the best. I'm looking at a post 2000 car with no more than 100000 miles. Help!

  1. In my opinion.  I'd go with the Toyota Corolla.  My step-mom owned a Civic and my friend still owns his Corolla.  Although his is quite a bit older.  On a trip to Virginia and back with his vehicle (live in Wisconsin) he got 44 miles per gallon.  and about 38 while in the area down there.  Step-moms Civic gets mid to high 20's in town and low to mid 30's highway on average.  Both his car and my step-moms car have had about the same amount of problems but again, his vehicle is about 20 years old and hers is from around 2000-ish.  He does take good care of the thing (it's a manual as well on a side note) but I've known of mostly good luck with Toyota in general both new and old.  I've less experience and knowledge with Honda and the Civic in particular but that's my outlook at least.

  2. Toyota is number 1

  3. Yes, keep the miles as low as possible no matter what you buy. Check into getting a Honda Civic GX, which runs on natural gas instead of gasoline. They're the cleanest cars on earth and cheap to fill up, too. I have 2 cars that run on natural gas (methane), and I love 'em! Your only possible problem is filling up because not every state has filling stations for natural gas. Check out my sources below and find out if this will work for you. Good luck!
