  1. remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine. but it is not needed, you will not loose enough to worry about nor will it spray far at all. i own a honda and i have done several of them.on the 98 civic, if it is not below the master cylinder on the drivers side, it is in the trunk area, under the carpet.

  2. Yes, relieving fuel pressure is important.  You'll need to remove your gas cap and loosen the banjo bolt on the fuel filter to relieve fuel pressure.

The fuel filter is located under your hood at clamped against the wall at very rear on the right side of your battery.

You can use a box wrench & adjustable wrench to loosen the banjo bolt to relieve the fuel pressure.

You'll need a flare wrench to remove and reinstall the hose beneath the fuel filter (has better grip to prevent stripping).  You may need to buy liquid sealer to prevent any leaks when you reinstall; don't use teflon as it is not very effective or good for particles floating in your fuel system.

Make sure you have a towel underneath the area around the fuel filter and make sure your that your battery has been disconnected before you begin.

You can read the steps and view some of the photos from the link below to perform this.

    Good luck!

  3. def. if u dont, **** will burst just like a brake-line.

  4. Yes, you should. I am not sure what kind of valve it has, but you can loosen the gas cap and then loosen, but do not fully disconnect the fitting going to the filter until the pressure is relieved  to make it easier. Honestly I never have relieved the pressure. Just had a bucket under the filter and loosened the fitting and drained the gas. Everyone would tell me the gas will go everywhere, but with a fuel injected unmodified car the pressure is ~40psi so it’s not like it is going to kill you unless you are an inch away with your eyes. Look for it by following the fuel line. Buy the new one and you will know what to look for.

  5. You do need to relieve system pressure to keep from having fuel everywhere, and especially with the fuel filter being above the exhaust it could become a fire hazard. The fuel filter on a 1998 Honda Civic is located on the firewall on the passenger side above the engine.

  6. yes you do! if you don,t you will have gas everywhere and maybe in your face.
