Honda Classic all set to tee off from tomorrow - PGA Tour preview
The PGA Tour’s four day Honda Classic is all set to tee off from tomorrow at the challenging par-70, Spa-Champion golf course in Florida. The total prize money sanctioned by the sponsors for the tournament is US$ 5.7 million. The player who will play in
the tournament will be world number three Englishman, Luke Donald, who is coming off a win at the WGC-Accenture Match play championships last week. World number two, Lee Westwood, and Gareme McDowell will also be among the top contenders for winning the trophy.
Camilo Villegas from Colombia will be looking to defend his title this year. The Colombian last year won by a margin of five strokes against his nearest competitor, Anthony Kim of America. Villegas had a total aggregate score of 13-under par which was enough
to lift the title and the winner’s purse. The player from Europe has not had a great run in recent years and has only three PGA Tour victories in his career. It was a two-year long journey for him when he won his third tournament last year.
Villegas after his practice round said, "Last year’s win was very special for me and I am feeling confident of my title defence this year. Although the top players will be present on the field tomorrow but I will battle it out against them."
Lee Westwood, who recently lost his world number one golf ranking, will be looking to make a move back to the top by winning the trophy. The Englishman is all set to go out tomorrow on the course and card a under par round to post his name on top of the
leader board. Westwood who has had only two wins on the PGA Tour, will be hoping to improve his record on American soil. The European Tour member failed to make it through to the final of match plays and is all charged up to triumph in this championship.
Donald will be looking to repeat his winning performance from the Accenture Match Play against Kaymer last week. The English golfer was in exquisite form during his previous championship. Donald who has worked extremely hard on his swing is excited about
playing in this tournament. The Ryder Cup member will be hoping to continue his winning streak
Irishman Graeme McDowell is also going to be playing in this championship. The previous years Ryder Cup hero is pleased that his approach shots during the practice round were on the spot. McDowell who is the defending U.S. Open champion is over-whelmed with
the way he was putting and hitting before the tournament. He is enjoying his fourth world ranking and is hoping to take on the challenging course from tomorrow.
Some fireworks are expected from all these top players participating. Conditions of the course are extremely tough and one hopes that there will be under par scores in the first round.
