Honda Fit or Scion xD?

Question

I need a fuel efficient under 18K. I know Yaris is the best but I don't like the center-mounted gauge so next on the list is Fit and xD. Can I get some honest opinion? Which do you think is better?

the fit.  it has a better reputation for driveability.

actaully next on the list for fuel efficiency relative to cost is the hyundai accent GS, followed then by the fit.

CR lists the fuel efficeincy relative to cost as

toyota yaris

hyundai accent GS

honda fit

toyota prius

mazda 3i

the xD does make the list but after these, the civic, nissan versa and a couple of otehrs.

i may have missed one or two.

I've read many reviews raving about how fun the Fit is to drive and how well it's built.  It's also completely redesigned for 2009 so it's slightly roomier and more powerful.  Comparing the appearance of both cars, I like the Fit better as well.  The Scion is cool too, though.  When I was looking for a new car in December I remember being interested in both of these models and I was very close to choosing the Fit, but Volkswagen had very good lease deals going on at that time so I got a new Rabbit which I like very much.  You probably aren't looking into the Rabbit because it doesn't achieve as good of gas mileage as the Fit or xD, but I definitely recommend it.  It's very fun and I've had no problems with it yet; I average around 25mpg in mostly city driving (mine has a manual transmission).

Summary:  in your situation, I'd choose the Fit.
