Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli still searching for 2011 season’s best finish – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli is still in pursuit to mark his 2011 MotoGP season’s best finish.
In the upcoming eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, he is hoping to fight for a podium finish.
Simoncelli said, “Mugello was definitely a positive weekend with a positive end result although I wasn't completely satisfied. It was important to get to the end of the race without any dramas and put the misadventures of Silverstone and Assen behind me.”
Simoncelli aimed to finish the Assen race rather than competing with the top riders. It was important to finish the race as it was a home event for the San Carlo Honda Gresini team and the Italian rider himself.
Previously he crashed in the last two events at Silverstone and Assen with no points gained. This time at Mugello, he had to prove his matured riding style. Overall, he has crashed in four out of eight events and only restarted at Assen. Despite of a pole
position in Netherlands, he was ninth to finish the race.
He further said, “The test on Monday was also positive – we tried some solutions that could help us overcome the problems we had in the race at Mugello, where I seemed to struggle more than the others with a loss of grip due to the increased track temperature.
Overall the visit to Mugello has given me confidence and motivation for the next round in Germany.”
The Italian rider likes to race at Sachsenring, Germany. In his 125cc and 250cc race stints, he has been fast at the German venue. Simoncelli has also won two German 250cc events in 2008 and 2009. In the 2010 MotoGP race, he was struggling for a fifth place
finish at Sachsenring.
Now Simoncelli aims to stay upright in the race and possibly earn best results along with a team effort. He will fight to improve from his Mugello results.
The San Carlo Honda Gresini team principal Fausto Gresini is relaxed after completing the show at Mugello. Although he was not content with Simoncelli’s race finish, but a first row start was something positive to look at in Italy.
