Honda LPGA Thailand 2012 to feature key players
Honda LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) is going to be played from February 16-19, with a competent field featuring some of the leading players in women’s golf.
In cooperation with Honda Automobile, IMG and Channel 7, LPGA has decided to host the tournament at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club, putting Thai golf in the limelight.
The tournament this year is special as the prize money is big enough to lure players. The LPGA has decided to boost the purse to a whopping $1.5 million.
In addition to awarding prominent players, the event will also make donations for relief fund.
For the services of donations, the LPGA is working in a close partnership with The Rajaprajanigroh Foundation.
The operations and activities will be conducted under the auspices of the Thailand government.
Since Asian tournaments have been dwarfed by fan-favourite US and European events, the LPGA is now taking some bold steps to bring golf in Asian countries into focus.
The match will feature 72 holes, making the event even more competitive. The officials of the tournament have spiced up the event by introducing a stronger field. The field at Siam Country Club will see 60 leading players.
In an effort to boost golf in Asia, Honda Automobile (Thailand) is making all-out efforts along with the LPGA.
Executive Vice President of Honda Motors said that the company puts its complete trust in the services of LPGA for golf.
He said that the tournament is being played for a good cause. After flood crisis in the region, he claimed that it is the need of hour to raise funds for the victims and the February 16 event will be a perfect platform for this cause.
“The Honda LPGA Thailand 2012 is a great opportunity to show the world that Thailand is ready and able to welcome visitors to the land of smiles again after the flood crisis,” he said.
He added that in addition to the betterment of golf in Thailand, the event will help the officials improve lives of the poor.
“We will fight through the hardship together. Honda was also one of the victims but we are committed to stand side by side with the Thai people and retain our production base in Thailand”.
