Honda LPGA Thailand: Ai Miyazato fires 7-under 65 to gain lead over Yani Tseng in the third round
Japanese Ai Miyazato gained a lead over the hot favourite Yani Tseng by shooting a 7-under 65 in the third round of the Honda LPGA Thailand.
Miyazato looked completely fired up at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club, as she made calculated putts on most of the holes.
Miyazato’s nearest rival Tseng, who currently ranks number one in the world golf rankings, could not hold her ground, letting the Japanese snatch a lead.
Yani also fired a 7-under 65, but Miyazato outperformed her on most of the holes. Speaking of her stunning form on the course, she said she never thought she would be able to beat Tseng in the third round.
However, there will be tougher competition when she sets foot on the course to kick off her 4th round.
The young star was keen to point out that playing at Siam Country Club was a dream come true for her, as she liked the course.
She said that she capitalised on the comfortable weather conditions, making sure she was in a stronger position.
She stated, "It's just the beginning of the season and a beautiful golf course and a nice temperature today. The people are really nice over here and I'm just having a really good time".
Tseng, who was regarded as the most favourite player at the tournament, was stunned to see a lesser known player surge ahead.
However, the Thai star said that she can still bounce back and claw her way up to the top of the leaderboard.
She said that although she lost momentum on the third day, she will try to put her best foot forward in a bid to reverse the situation.
"I hit so many great shots today and I just feel like my game is there," Tseng said. "I'm pretty confident and just will try to do it again tomorrow".
Miyazato opened the third day by shooting a birdie. She appeared in high spirits, as she avoided making too many lousy putts.
She faltered on the par-4 3rd hole, scoring a bogey. However, she stunned the spectators when she drained two birdies on the 5th and 8th.
On the back nine, she made 2 straight birdies on the 10th and 11th, strengthening her position. She then scored 3 consecutive birdies to cap off the round in an impressive style.
