Honda LPGA Thailand: Pornanong Phatlum stands at 10th at the end of 2nd round
Pornanong Phatlum looked pumped up in the second round of Honda LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Thailand, as she showed an impressive performance, reaching 10th on the leaderboard.
Hailing from Thailand, Phatlum is confident to play in the field comprising leading players on the LPGA Tour. She told the media about her ambitions before entering the Siam Country Club at Pattaya.
Phatlum appeared to be in high spirits in the comfortable winds on the course, as she scored a 71 in the first round. She played amazingly well, making putts that gave her an upper hand over her rivals.
Although there are many competent players in the field, such as the current world number one Yani Tseng, Phatlum did not once look like she was in trouble.
Playing her second year on the LPGA Tour, the 22-year-old Thai is a big fan of playing in her country. She said that she gains plenty of confidence when she plays among her fans.
Before kicking off the event, Phatlum said that she would do her best to finish in the top 10. She lived up to her fans’ expectation and did what she planned to.
She further said that she had been seeking to finish in the top 10 at Honda LPGA Thailand but unfortunately, she has not been able to bring herself at par with some of the big names in women’s golf.
In the second round, she picked up her pace and carded a stunning 67.
Phatlum’s career has been awash with many surprises. She grabbed the headlines when she proved her worth in 2006 Hong Kong Open, winning the title.
The young Thai has made certain that she is in a stronger position at the end of the 2nd round.
However, since the field is featuring giants like Yani Tseng and Suzann Pettersen, maintaining her current position will be an uphill task.
Yani Tseng, who is defending the title at Siam Country Club, scored a 7-under 65 in the 2nd round, making sure she will have enough room to surge ahead.
The Honda LPGA Thailand is one of the most prestigious events and has a reputation for staging tough events. The LPGA is conducting the tournament in cooperation with Honda Automobiles, IMG and Channel 7.
