Honda Racing Corporation reveal NFS250R for 2012 Moto3 class – MotoGP news
Honda Racing Corporation unveiled their new NSF250R for the 2012 Moto3 class on Thursday.
The new regulations have replaced the two-stroke 125cc machines with new four-stroke 250cc machines in a bid to make the races more environmental friendly.
The replacement of the class will also help the new riders in the Moto3 entry class to move into the premier class with strong racing basics.
Vice President of HRC, Shuhei Nakamoto commented on the change and development of their Moto3 machine as he said, “Our aim is to expand the base of motorsports through the Moto3 class, and the greatest joy would be for this class to be a springboard for
future champions.”
The Montmelo circuit held the unveiling event of the HRC NFS250R under the eyes of Nakamoto and Project Development leader Yoshiyuki Kurayoshi. Both are the key persons of the HRC Moto3 project.
Former 500cc world champion Alex Criville was also present at the occasion. While sharing his views with media he said, “It’s time to change to Moto3. The future will be more interesting. For me, it’s a good time to change to this class.”
The new four-stroke 250cc engine type is liquid cooled comprising of single cylinder. The brand new machine will race in the 2012 MotoGP season after the decision of eliminating the two-stroke 125cc engines.
The new NSF250R has been built by restoring some important characteristics of its 125cc ancestor. The chassis is kept original in geometric terms. The titanium valves, sealed crank-shaft and a dry weight of 84kg are some of the highlights of the new bike.
The new Honda NSF250R model is expected to be available at showrooms by the end of year 2011.
The 2012 regulations will also bring back the big 1000cc engines premier class, replacing the 800cc ones. The 1000cc engines will make a comeback after three seasons. The MotoGP grid is also expected to see 16 more riders with anticipated 11 new teams under
the section of ‘Claiming Rules Team’ in the 2012 season.
