Question:

Honda motorcycle break light won't turn off.?

My husband has a CBR600 and the break light work turn off, it runs steady. I worry because other drivers don't know when he is really breaking. We have checked the fuses and the light, both are working properly. The light will dim and get bright when we hooked it up to another bike to test it. Friends are telling us that it is a sensor. Where could this be? Is this an easy fix or will it be costly? Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

  1. All the answers are good, so far, but the answer from "Lane K." offers the best response and solution.  Chances are it's one of the 2 switches. . .

  2. One of the switches may be faulty or have a bad connection. The switch for the front is located in/on the underside of lever mount.the rear switch is at the rear of the pedal,it's usually tucked behind the guard and you will see how the pedal operates it.

  3. OK so  Bluff Mike offers advise when it's a foreign bike that has a question, but when it's a Harley he throws a smart a** comment.

    WTF??

  4. near the foot break for the back wheel theres a switch sometimes it just needs a little wd-40 wires loose

    also check bulb in backwards

  5. There is two switches one one the foot brake and one on the hand brake both are easy to replace and i would suggest you replace both at the same time.

  6. Look for the rear brake switch. Sometimes they get dirty and stick in the "on" position. Shoot some WD40 or contact cleaner on it.

  7. Ok so the light always stays on as if hes always on the brakes, or the light is always on and it just gets brighter when he hits the brakes?

If its the 2nd one then that is normal, the rear light should always be on, then it just gets brighter as he hits the brakes.

If its always on like hes always on the brakes even when he is not then yeah it is going to be a sensor. Eather on the hand brake, or foot brake

  8. pull the BRAKE lever on the bar you hear the switch it will click when you let it fully off it will click also

If it does not your pinch/pivot bolt is too tight on the lever.

I had this prob. on my Rc51 I had to push the lever out so the switch would click or disengage

There is also a tubular switch on the rear BRAKE pedal when you push the pedal it engages. sometimes they get some road grime in the mechanism and stick. take the return spring off the tube and activate it by hand. You may need to clean it out and give it some lube
