My mufflers are popping really bad. When i switch gear it sounds like a shotgun going off. Is it cause of my compression? Will this hurt my motorcycle? What can I do to fix this problem?

I would rather fix this problem myself. I mean I work at a mech shop but I have never worked on a motorcycle. Anryrways let me knrow. thanks

  1. This really sounds like a fuel mixture problem to me.  Have you changed the exhaust or air cleaner recently?  That is fairly common when you do.

You may need to adjust your fuel-air mixture, or worst-case, re-jet the carbs.

    Good luck, and happy riding.

That's back fire.  That is usually caused by bad carburation. Kind of tricky to work on without the right tools. Focus on re-jetting your carbs.

At the worst case, it can blow open your muffler.

    Good luck...

  3. rejet the carbs dude no matter if the exhaust has been changed or not

  4. if you made your exhaust louder in other words kess restrictive it would be a lean condition. However you didnt say if you did that. the only other time I can think of backfiring is if the timing is off. However that bikes ignition timing is elactronic an not adjustable.

  5. Look for hardened or cracked vacuum lines that operate your petcock  or PAIR (fresh air injection valve).

Check that your header bolts are torqued properly.
