Hondos Saga leads the way to the finish line in A3 race at Oxford
In any given greyhound race, a sudden burst of speed usually makes a big difference. Such was the case when Hondos Saga won the 450m A3 race at the Oxford Greyhound Stadium on Friday 26
November.
Hondos Saga, the 7-4 favourite, had a strong start from trap three, surging into the lead after moving quickly away from the rest of the pack. Once the lead was hers, she refused to relinquish
it, and she went on to finish the race in 27.79 seconds. Parkill Be Good (4-1) challenged from the fourth bend, and finished a shoulder’s length behind the winner. He matched the winning time of 27.79.
Dance Charmaine (5-2) held an early pace from the start, and ran on to place third by posting a time of 27.93. She was 1¾ lengths out of second place. Fourth place went to Ceann Alainn
(4-1). She held an early pace, but went wide and was forced to check fourth, losing 1¼ lengths as a result, and finishing in 28.03.
Maldini Diamond (6-1) moved off and crowded the second bend, and wound up in fifth place. His time of 28.25 placed him 2¾ lengths Ceann Alainn. Bringing up the rear was 16-1 long shot
Glynnscross Enda. He crowded and fell second, and failed to finish the race.
The 450m A2 race held later on saw Shelbourne Cheri lead the way to a close finish. After a crowded start from trap two, the 6-4 favourite rebounded to capture the lead near the finish
line. The late lead was all she needed to take first place, and she finished well with a time of 27.61. Dreamwalk (7-2) dreamt of a first place finish, but had to settle for second place. After holding an early pace, he led near the finish line, finishing
a head behind the champion in 27.62.
Third place belonged to Harlequin Haley (6-1). She crowded first, but ran on to finish 2½ lengths out of the number two position in 27.82. A clumsy effort landed Go Garelli (5-2) in fourth
place. He missed the top three by a head.
Frisky Giacoma (4-1) lost 2 ½ lengths after bumping first. She finished in fifth place with a time of 28.03. Ashcroft Colin (6-1) crowded and fell at the first bend, and did not complete
the race. As a result, he earned last place by default.
Oxford Greyhound Stadium will hold its next race meeting on Saturday 27 November. The action begins with an A9 race at 19:35.
