Question:

Honduran 5 year residency, but not staying that long?

I am a US citizen living and teaching in Honduras. The school I work for got me a 5 year residency. I have had it for about three months and I am leaving in a week and a half. They want me to come personally to Teguc to get rid of it, but I have to work with some of my student at a medical brigade and I absolutely cannot go. I have heard of people renouncing their residency without having to go to Tegucigalpa.

Any information would be helpful. I can only find info on how to obtain residency, but nothing on how to drop it.

  1. Why do you need to drop your residency?  I have heard of renouncing citizenship but not residency.  For most of the different types of Honduran residencies you must live here for X number of months each year.  If you go home and don't come back I believe the residency will "renounce" itself.  If not, you will have it if you ever do decide to come back to live.
