Honest opinions or to lie? Baby names

Question

When people ask for opinions on baby names, do they want honest opinions or everyone to lie & say they like it?

Not everyone, but some people defend the name or say stuff like 'It's my child & 'I'll name them whatever I want!'

My question is,

why ask for honest opinions if your going to defend the name & use it anyway?

Everyone has differant taste in names!

If your set on a name, don't ask for opinions, all that matters is that you like it.

i have always wondered that.  They will say do you like this name, and then they were say i don't want to change the spelling it is my kid.   or something stupid like that. it is just ridiculous.

I am one of the people on YA! who actually says their opinion, and dosen't just say that they like the name and kiss thier *** just to get a best awnser. those people just annoy me.  alot

If people ask for an honest opinion they need to expect that not everyone will agree with them..

Personally, I want real honest opinions because if someone says "well she'll get made fun of because of that ugly/stupid/dumb name" then I won't give them that name because of publics general consensus on that name.

I love honest opinions...as long as they're not TOO rude!!

The thing I hate is if you post a questions saying:

"Do you like the name Matthew"?

And some replies saying:

"No I HATE that name because I went to school with a guy who had that name and he was a bully".

This annoys me a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!

My thought is, if you ask, you should be prepared for the honest opinions, otherwise DON'T ASK.

d**n, i totally agree with you on that. If you ask for an opinion, than that's what people are gonna give you. Don't get offense when people say their OPINION. Your definately right tho!!

honestly because they want someone to tell them how wonderful their misspelled,made up,trendy,trailer c**p is!!! some people will not lie and that makes them mad cause they think their names are brilliant,many are not and some are just plain awful.there is no accounting for taste or a lack of it apparently!

i say keep it real and keep it simple kids deserve a decent correctly spelled gender appropriate name.not something you made up that most people wouldn't call a dog!!!

I agree. It annoys me how some people ask for opinions on a name and then ask for no rude comments. If you ask for opinions there is ALWAYS going to be someone who doesn't agree with you.

Everyone is different and has different tastes, and if you are going to ask for opinions you should be set for constructive criticism or harsh opinions.
