Sorry if this runs a little long. There is a situation that I found kind of curious and I was wondering what others thought. My cousin was sharing an apartment with a female friend of hers. There are some members of my family who think that she is g*y and that this "friend" was actually her girlfriend. I don't know if that is the case or not, but pretty much everyone said that the reason they had to have been a couple is because the apartment was a one bedroom. They felt that one generally doesn't live in a one bedroom apartment with someone you're not going out with. Basically there was no indication that they slept in the same bed or anything like that. I didn't think there was anything weird about it because for one thing they are pretty young and carried jobs that paid only a little more than minimum wage and apartments don't exactly come cheap. A two bedroom is going to run more expensive than a one bedroom for a couple of young people in what is basically their first apartment. And also I figure maybe one of them uses the bedroom and the other sleeps on a sofa bed in the living room. So I'm wondering, do you think it is strange for two people to share a one bedroom apartment, assuming they are not a couple?

  1. I can relate to this and did indeed share a one bedroom apartment when I was very young, didn't have the money for a 2 bedroom and only one bed! We were friends and both trying to save money! So no I would not think they were g*y, unless you know for a fact that they are! Economy is probably the reason for this! Cheers!

  2. Well, actually, I have a couple friends who did that but made their "bedroom" into a dorm-type of room. They had 2 single beds. Facing opposite of the room. It was nice and tidy. The room was really only used for sleeping and when one would have a "male friend" over, they would put a cowboy hat on the door and leave it be. No big deal. If there's only one bed, then I might be suspicious. But if they're just saving money and have separate beds and stuff, I don't see the issue either.

  3. Not at all. It all comes down to how economical one is compared to another. Tell your family to get a life (No offense) and let her live her life.

  4. There have been whole families so poor that they all sleep in one bedroom. That doesn't make either the man or the woman a child molester. I suggest that there has been too much mean spirited gossip going around the family and sooner or later your cousin will be hurt by it and will, justifiably, write off the whole lot of you. Be sure to stay on the side of the angels on this meaning stay far away from this mean chatter.

  5. i don't think it's extremely strange, because what else can they do in their situation for living expenses etc.

i wouldn't assume anything unless you had more facts so you can make a decision then

  6. h**l no its not strange. Money is scarce these days and every little bit saved helps a great deal. Even if they are a couple, then who cares? Last time i checked this was the 21st century. Shouldnt we, as modern people, be above petty prejudice and bigotry?

  7. It's good that you avoid your family's gossip ... it never leads to anything good or positive.

You could, sometime in the future if you're not up for it now, suggest that even if they ARE g*y, it's not contagious and it wouldn't affect the family in any way. Tell them "it won't get on" them. haha ... this might be a language they'll understand.

As to your cousin ... if you're curious, she might actually appreciate you coming right out and asking her. In the grand scheme of things, it wouldn't be such a terrible thing to just satisfy your curiosity.
