we all know it is a global and local issue as well.

i am not talking about serious steps, but things, like not leaving water running while brushing teeth or shaving, or ablution?

also, i noticed that almost everyone moving to a villa today, gotta small swimming pool. i think serious tax should be imposed on them.

  1. I think one of the biggest ways to save water is getting a dishwasher.  We don't have one, and I feel bad about all the water it takes to wash the dishes.  In a couple of months, we're moving to a place with a dishwasher though.

I do turn off the water while brushing my teeth, and I only take showers.

  2. honestly no,but i should.

  3. Soul I applaud your efforts.

We also try.. When we built our new home (now inside going on 1 years anniversary now).. We tried to get all efficient appliances and toiletries.. Water saving toilets, washing machine etc..

I have tried to teach my children to concerve water, and try little tips like not letting it just run while brushing teeth etc..

When doing dishes, I use a huge pan of sudsy water and not let the sink faucet just run.. and then I use a big bucket to rince all in..

we also use a bucket to wash our car.. we are guilty of hosing down the front area of our house.. its all tiles, not garden, but the extreme dust storms we've had this year, sweeping doesnt get rid of the dust, we have to spray the tiles down once a month (I dont think thats bad), its not like everyday like some people you see and the water runs needlessly down the street into a horrid puddle of muck you drive through splashing on the cars.

  4. Dear Ameen,

forget about tax in Saudi Arabia. I agree there is a shortage of water because of future planing for hajjjis around the globe hajjis visits Saudi Arabia and in 2009 there will be not water shortage in cities like jeddah & madhina because now there is a up coming water plant name SHUAIBHA WATER. i am acting in this plant as project coordinator so water problem is solved. and u know one thing saudi arabia is the richest country after ALLAH permission they can do any thing on the land of saudi arabia more 70yrs they can give oil to hole world and for ur kind information they have not touch the gold mountains yet still lying ideal.

  5. yes actually, i'm from jeddah and i can't think of anyone living in my city that wouldn't with all our "water related" problems...it would be arrogant and dumb not to mention against islamic conduct.

we don't "hose down" our cars when we want to clean them instead we use a bucket, sponge and wipe. we don't "hose down" the entire yard (we've got a good size yard so we replaced the lawn that really needed a lot of water and care with stone pavement and a few selected lawn patches and palm trees) and we switched to useing the high preassure air and water blowing thing (really have no idea whats it called) that uses a much smaller amount of water to clean the same area.

we still have a pool, but now instead of emptying it every couple of months to clean it and fill it up again...we keep the water and treat it chemically and have one of us scrub the tiles manually (not at the same time ofcourse)....

we never did leave the water running during any of the activities you mentioned in the first place so we just kept that going...

when there's a leak or some faucet dripping in the house we fix that promptly...within an hour vs before we used to take our time...we also use the faucet fixures the ministry started distributing a couple of years ago and we keep checking with them for any new measures we can use to help out...

i'm a bath person but i switched to showers about 5 years ago now....baths are pampering and relaxing, but i feel guilty using all that water when my father, brother and husband struggle so hard and wait for so long to get water back up and running in the house especially in the hot summer months...not to mention the hudnreds of people who spend days and even weeks waiting for it...

got any other tips? please share...

  6. I do, I only take a shower once a week!!

No I am just kidding :)

Reducing water consumption is an important thing, small steps are really easy and I don't understand why people won't do it.

Here at work, water faucets poor a lot of water and you have to balance it when making ablution.  Small steps like this really helps along with what you mentioned.

Some people here wash their cars every day using drinking water!!  This is not right and they should do it once every two or three days.

  7. I am conscious of conserving water and I've started drinking more wine.

  8. stopped having garden
