Honesto Buendia confounds Eddie Hung in Men’s Singles encounter of Ede Clendinnen Shield tournament
The spirited Men’s Singles campaigner Honesto Buendia continued his unbeatable run and overpowered Eddie Hung in 2012 Ede Clendinnen Shield Sydney on August 27, 2012.
This epic encounter was the second Men’s Singles tie of a match between NSW Thunder and Western Australia.
There was a lot of sensation in this showdown as it prolonged to 61 minutes before ending with final figures of 21-23, 24-22 and 21-18.
Honesto Buendia, who slipped down in the very opening set, played his role to perfection and fetched a vital match point for his team.
On the other hand, Eddie squandered a golden opportunity of a straight-set victory and knelt down in crucial moments of the battle.
The opening game set the overall mood of the match as both contenders strived hard to get an early advantage in match score position.
They remained toe-to-toe until last shot was played and did not allow each other to gain a permanent lead.
In the beginning, Eddie made swift progress by gathering a couple of successive points but he could not maintain this pace and allowed the opposing shuttler to narrow the gap.
Honesto took the charge and established a comfortable lead just before the interval. This slight edge helped him to keep his challenger at the lower end in third quarter of the set.
However, Eddie showed strong character in pressure situation and saved some honour by registering 23-21 margin.
The best part of the tussle was yet to come as both shuttlers displayed commendable craft on the court to achieve their respective goals.
They challenged each other in all departments of game and made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance.
Neither could make a notable difference until the final moments and this cliff-hanging set ended when Honesto tipped the scale in his favour with decisive figure of 24-22.
The decider was also played in same manner as it kept swinging between them all the way to game point situation.
At one stage, Eddie was in a strong position with a decent advantage before the break but then Honesto came in his way and served notice of his supremacy with an impressive knock of 21-18.
