  1. ya they need water to live a lot of people have a problem with this its usually because of some irresponsible beekeeper  but what you should do is give them another water source get a shallow pan and fill it with clean gravel or small rocks for them to stand on when they drink and then just fill it with water they should prefer this to your pond

  2. The simple answer is water. Honybees and wasps will gather near any standing water to drink, they need it just like any other animal.

Think of all the pics you've seen of animals gathered around a watering hole in Africa and you'll get the idea. If there are a LOT of them , then there is probably a hive nearby. If you can locate it and it's a wild hive then you can have it removed. Your local animal control can probably put you in contact with an apiarist. please DON'T try to remove a hive yourself or get someone to destroy it, like an exterminator. Bees are in trouble right now.

  3. I'm not sure why they're there, but you should just leave them....honey bees are disappearing in alarming numbers and they do pollinate a lot of our nation's food.  Maybe you could call your local DNR and see if they have any advice as to why they're hanging around your pond.

  4. its hot out, maybe they are thirsty, be nice and leave them be.

  5. Bees need water to drink.  Maybe putting another water source......like a bird bath closer to where you suspect their hive is located.  Don't forget to float a stick on the top.....a bee life raft.
