Question:

Honey Bees in the wall of our house?

we have a honey bee nest in the side of our house.. I've tried spraying the opening where they go in, but it didn't do much.. I tried putting caulk over the opening and they just dug through it.. we had an exterminator come out and he just sprayed the opening with some liquid, collected his money, and hit the road.. that didn't have any effect at all on the bees.. what else can we do? do we have to call a beekeeper to tear into the wall and remove the hive? it's a brick wall, so that would cost a fortune to fix.. are there any other options?

  1. I would call a beekeeper and ask him of there is another way to get them out.  He may be able to do it without causing damage that has to be repaired.

  2. Bees are in such short supply right now you should try to get someone out who will take them off your hands.  A Bee keeper would be glad to get them and would probably do it for free.  We had one house here recently who had thousands bees in their wall.  It was a huge colony and someone came of out and took them away and fixed the wall for them after they left.   That is how valuable they are.

  3. actually good luck finding a bee keeper to collect the colony...most don't want to hassle with the trouble.and will basically offer to kill the bees for you.   Your exterminator should of given you some sort of guarantee on his service if not you should of done your part and locate a reputable company in your area.  If the colony is new this year you may get by without having to open up the wall to remove the honey but if it has been around for awhile you would be best served opening up the wall and remove the hive.  The actual wall removal would be from the inside, the sheet rock or paneling.

  4. Get  one of those house bombs for insects. After dark when you know they are in the nest for the night set it off at the opening to the nest so that it gets in to the nest. This will do the trick most of the time in one attempt but you may need to do it twice! After you are sure they are no longer active seal up the opening!
