Honey - how do bee keepers know which flowers their bees made the honey from???

  1. They don't.  They just make the assumption that if the hive is located in an orange orchard, it'll be "orange honey";  if it's located adjacent to clover fields it'll be "clover honey."

    These assumptions are good, because bees can fly only a limited distance.


  2. Most bee keepers have their own flower garden, in the area due to some local zoning laws in keeping bees. For the most part they know what type of flowers.  

  3. They can tell by the color and taste of the honey.  My cousin used to have honey bees and he always planted a big field of buckwheat, for the bees.
