Question:

Honeymoon in New York/Las Vegas and L.A?

The idea I have is a 3 week trip to America. 3nights in New York, then to Vegas, rent a car and travel to L.A. stopping maybe in Palm Springs, then to San Francisco, Yosemite and Death Valley before ending the trip with 4/5 days in Vegas

Being a Honeymoon we will need an element of relaxation in the holiday, we will get this in the hotels, and staying in the main cities 3/4 days. I hope...

I have a few problems with this trip.

1. Can anyone recommend a hotel in New York, had a look, very expensive. Looking for a central Hotel, 3 nights for around £400 or $850

2. Romantic hotels in Vegas, around £500 or $1000 for 4/5 nights

3. Tips on nightlife in Vegas for couples in late 20s. Past the nightclub scene

4. Looking for somewhere to stay between L.A an San Francisco

5. An alternative place to Yosemite? Fiancé not to keen on nature walks

Never driven in America before, how is it to drive there? Stressful?

Will this trip allow some relaxation and adventure, or will it be stress from start to finish with the driving etc.

Sorry about the long question....................

  1. One of the most remarkable hotels that I've stayed in recently in vegas is the recently redecorated Flamingo Hotel. It seriously has it all and the prices are remarkable.

You might want to book through a hotel site, as you can get some great discounts in that way also.

Vegas is certainly the place to go.

Also we did the same thing ou are doing.. drove and stopped along the way..

It is not so stressful to drive in the US so long as you use the interstates, although the cities can be confusing up to a point.

Vegas night life is everywhere and there really is something for everyone. The Mandalay bay shark tank is fairly remarkable and so is the fountain show at the Bellagio and its no cost.

"Vegas is truly the land of the cheap meals and the free entertainment.

Finding time to do everything while you are there is going to be the hard part.

  2. We got married in Vegas and then went to Tahoe and Yosemite for our honeymoon and then a week in Vegas at the end it was Fab !!

NY hotels are very expensive try the Novotel on Time Square not a true honeymoon hotel but great location and good value.

Bellagio has to be but we went to Mirage and had a suite for less than a room at Bellagio it was wonderful huge, great view on the penthouse floor. http://vegasuncovered.wordpress.com/2008...

Driving is easy in US far easier than in the UK http://vegasuncovered.wordpress.com/2008...

You don’t need to walk in Yosemite you can se most of the good bits within 5 minutes from the car just don’t eat at Curry camp it’s terrible. Lake Tahoe is a good alternative if he really does not want to go to Yosemite or even a couple of days at the Grand Canyon.

  3. I have a few answers for your questions, but not to all...

Hotels in Vegas...we really like MGM, Venetian, and the Wynn.  No matter how nice Bellagio may seem from outside/pictures/etc, it is WAY TOO CROWDED to be romantic.  There is barely room to walk anywhere inside.

For nightlife there, if you want to stay away from nightclub type things, I'd suggest checking out some of the shows.  "Love" is amazing!  Red Square Bar in Mandalay Bay is pretty mellow too.

As for driving here, it's stressful in the major cities, but doable.  Try to avoid driving along the strip in Vegas and in NYC tho.  LA will be high stress during rush hour.  I've driven that before, it was nuts, but I survived, lol.

  4. Driving in the USA is different i'm an Aussie and did it last year and i'll tell you i drive Buses in Brisbane during morning and afternoon peak hours and there is no comparison. We drove from Vegas to Bryce Canyon up to Reno and across to San Fran and the worst part was driving into SF but thankfully we decided to hire a GPS unit with the car. Try and convince your Fiance to go to Yosemite it is truly beautiful and you don't need to go hiking to experience it. Vegas is off the hook it is 24-7 mad(in a good way) and while your there go to the Grand Canyon it is spectacular(either drive or fly) and try to do the night Helicopter flight over the Vegas Strip. Staying between LA and SF i would suggest Monterey and drive the Big SUR on the way. I would also look at using the Tripadvisor web site

  5. las vegas, I would suggest mandalay bay, treasure island, mirage and mgm.

I am not sure what you are looking to do in NY but The hotel descriptions tell you what attractions they are close to.

I do not suggest driving in new york, too chaotic and public transportation will be fine. I do not suggest driving in vegas either.
