Honeymoon in carribean ideas for all inclusive?!?

We are trying to find a place we can go in the carribean that is all inclusive. I came up with a ton of places in our price range... However when I gave them to my Mother-in-law (who is arranging this for us) she said no one would let me come because I am 19 (under 21). It didn't matter that he is 22 and we will be married, i had to have a parent/guardian? Anyone know if this is true and/or have any ideas where we could go? Thanks so much for all the help...

  1. Most islands in the Caribbean the drinking age is 18, so as long as you are a legal adult and can drink (which you can there) then no one will stop you from booking.

I'm sorry to sound rude but your mother-in-law has no idea what she is talking about.  Maybe she should pick up the phone and talk to a travel professional before making visitors law decisions for you or small Caribbean islands.

  2. Like most people have said I would check with the places directly. In some cases places will not allow guest under 25 without a parent/guardian but if you're married I've never heard of it being an issue!!!

I know cruise lines will not allow single guest under 25 but if you are married then it doesn't matter!!

Again, I would just call and check and if you find out your future MIL was being less than honest...I would be sure to call her out on that!!!

In all senses of  being "an adult" it would make absolutely no sense to be 19 and married and have to have a parent present...so what if you were 19 married and had a child...would you still have to have a guardian?!?! I think not!!!

  3. While you MIL is correct some places do not let under 21 into some resorts without a guardian over 25, some do. Call some of the places you researched to check whether or not this is a problem. Remember, many high school and college students go on vaca without guardians with no problem. And the legal drinking age is 18 in the Caribbean,  that is why some places do not have problems with 19 year olds in a resort.

  4. -You should call the places you had set in mind and see if they do, in fact, have an age restriction.  If they do, maybe you could see if they make exceptions for couples on their honeymoon

    - I believe the legal drinking age in most places in the Caribbean is 18 years of age (I'm like 95% it is the case in the  Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands because I vacationed there before--I was 21+ when I went and I'm now 28-- I could swear I saw that the signs said 18yrs to legally drink).

-If the all inclusive resorts have an age restriction, maybe you could stay at a nice hotel for your honeymoon instead.

-Hope that helps, good luck, and best wishes!

  5. Why not check with the resorts directly.  Your MIL may have some motivation to dissuade you from your plans.  Check with these places yourself!

  6. me and my husband just came back from our honeymoon at sandals in ochos rios, jamaica... now that is a 5 star treatment for a reasonable price... i don't see why there would be an age requirement as the legal drinking age (if i understood this correctly) in jamaica is 19... so i don't think you would have to have a parent/guardian with you... i could be wrong about this though seeing as i am 26...
