Hong Kong Open 2012: Li Xuerui knocks out Belaetrix Manuputi in Women’s Singles round-of-16
China’s lofty player Li Xuerui showed a great performance and secured her berth in Women’s Singles quarter-final after defeating Indonesia’s Belaetrix Manuputi in round-of-16 battle at Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2012 on Thursday, November 22, in Hong Kong.
The impressive Li Xuerui, who is World Number Two and second seed in the tournament, won the title in last week’s China Open 2012 and also stayed on track in Hong Kong Open as she did not face any trouble in reaching into quarter-final.
Chinese shuttler established her worth in the arena from the opening points of the game and remained in complete control of rallies. She remained in commanding position all the way to end up the battle in straight sets in a dominating fashion.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Manuputi completely failed to put up strong show as she was no match to the aggressive Chinese shuttler. She tried her best but could not escape a comprehensive defeat in less than half-an-hour.
The lofty Xuerui played with outstanding control in her strokes and managed to control the driving seat from starting rallies of first game.
The phenomenal variations and incredible power in Xuerui’s shots assisted her to continue her superiority against the Indonesian shuttler who failed to play competitive badminton.
Chinese shuttler did not show any mercy to Manuputi and remained in complete command of rallies until the end of first part where she was in strong position.
The aggressive Xuerui remained confident in the arena after the one-minute break as she did not let down the pace of rallies and maintained an upper hand over her Indonesian rival.
Xuerui did lose her focus at any stage and easily took the first set with a superb 21-14 margin on the score board.
In the following game of this pre-quarter-final battle, the higher ranked Chinese shuttler played with complete control and did not leave any room for Manuputi to find a good rhythm.
Xuerui was impressively fast on court and she easily managed to wind up the second game in a staggering fashion with a superb margin of 21-13.
The in-form Chinese lady easily thrashed Manuputi in straight sets with a stunning 21-14 and 21-13 score on the board.
