Hong Kong Open Super Series: Chen Jin topples Jan O Jorgensen to enter into quarter-final
China’s former World Champion and current World Number Five, Chen Jin proves his worth as he has toppled Denmark’s Jan o Jorgensen in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 match in the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, on Thursday, November 17, in Hong Kong.
In the opening points of the game, both shuttlers remained close by playing at the similar level. No one could manage even a two-point lead until the score reached at 7-7. Jin was relying on his perfect drives and occasional smashes while, Jorgensen was
hitting the bird hard to put pressure on his Chinese opponent. However, until the break, it was Jin who managed to set up an 11-8 lead against the Danish.
After the break, Jin started to play in his usual aggressive style and remained successful in stretching his lead. Jorgensen failed to find to manipulate the gaps in his opponent’s court throughout the second half of the first game.
Jin remained calm and focused in the game and spared no chance for Jorgensen to fight back in the game. The Chinese took advantage in the match by taking the first game with a comfortable margin of 21-16 by consuming 19 minutes.
In the following set, the both players opened the game in the most aggressive way as they employed powerful smashes and strong pushes to build an early lead. Nevertheless, no one could manage it until the score reached at 6-6.
At this stage, Jorgensen played quivering badminton as he committed a couple of unforced errors. The Chinese worked well by remaining positive and fast in all corners of the court and executed a few superb strokes which helped him to establish a three-point
lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, Jin remained on the right track without dropping his speed throughout the match. He continued his smooth run against the Danish, who failed to play attacking badminton as the Chinese was not sparing any room for him to place his strokes.
Jin took the second set in an impressive style with a margin of 21-14 in 26 minutes. The overall score of this 45-minute round-of-16 battle was 21-16 and 21-14.
In the quarter-final showdown, Jin will face the winner of Denmark’s Peter Hoeg Gade and Japan’s Kazushi Yamada.
