Hong Kong Open Super Series: d**k Long Chan ousts Wee Chung Pei in second match of qualifying round
Hong Kong’s d**k Long Chan is just one step away from entering in the Men’s Singles main round as he has defeated Malaysia’s Wee Chung Pei in the second match of the qualifying round of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, on Tuesday, November 15, in Hong
Kong.
d**k Long had to dig deep to win the match against the spirited Malaysian in the three-set battle, which finished off in 56 minutes. It was one of the best fights of the day as both shuttlers entertained the crowd in a thrilling way in all three games.
Right from the start of the first game, both players delivered wonderful performance by playing quality badminton and the score also remained close. In the opening half of the set nobody could establish a strong position in the match as the score was quite
close. The score progressed in the same way and reached in the concluding phase of the game when the local shuttler played aggressive game and won the set with a 21-19 margin.
The second set of the match was also interesting as it was even tougher than the opening game of the match. It was a tight match as both players seemed to play at the same level by keeping the speed of the rallies at the maximum level. The score remained
tie until the ending stage when the local shuttler committed a crucial mistake and lost the set with a dramatic margin of 22-24.
However, in the final set, d**k Long came in the court with a different plan in his mind. He kept the bird low and played attacking game to dominate the rallies. In the first part of the set, the Hong Kong shuttler remained successful in building a good
lead.
In the second half, the Hong Kong player increased his speed to stretch his lead. Wee Chung completely failed to resist against the firing d**k Long and started to commit unforced errors. The local shuttler sailed smoothly and won the third game with a one-sided
margin of 21-12.
This Men’s Singles qualifying-round contest finished up in 56 minutes with a margin of 21-19, 22-24 and 21-12.
