Hong Kong Open Super Series: Ka Lei Mak beats Albertina Eugenia De Assis in the qualifying round
Macau’s Ka Lei Mak surges into the next stage of Women’s Singles qualifying round after beating her compatriot Albertina Eugenia De Assis in the opening match of the Hong Kong Open Super Series, on Tuesday, November 15, in Hong Kong.
Ka Lei displayed her skill in a scintillating fashion against her team mate and won the three-set battle after putting up strong show of impressive badminton for 60 minutes. She proved that she has the talent to beat any of her opponents on a given day.
The start of the match was quite impressive as both shuttlers delivered wonderful performance by employing top standard skills. However, Albertina started to play better game as the match progressed. She controlled the pace of the game in an impressive manner
and remained quicker in all areas of the court.
Ka Lei played well but not enough to stop her opponents from winning the opening game. She lost the set with a close margin of 19-21.
However, Ka Lei bounced back in the match by playing incredible game in the second set. She was relying on her smashes this time, which earned her a good lead. She showed no mercy to her rival in this set and progressed smoothly by playing positive badminton.
She took the game in a stunning fashion by a one-sided margin of 21-7.
The final set of this Women’s Singles qualifying round battle was thrilling as both ladies played equally well this time. The score also progressed without any clear difference as both shuttlers were pushing each other in all corners of the court. Until
the interval, Ka Lei was in somewhat better position with an 11-10 margin lead.
After the break, Albertina worked hard to level the score by reaching at 15-15. However, Ka Lei displayed wonderful performance in the ending points of the match by playing with incredible speed. Her planned game in the end earned her winning points in the
final set with a tight score of 21-19.
This breathtaking rubber-set battle finished off in 31 minutes with the victory of Ka Lei, who ended the match with a 19-21, 21-7 and 21-19 score.
