Hong Kong Open Super Series: Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong enter into Men’s Doubles semi-final
Korea’s in-form shuttlers Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong have powered their way into Men’s Doubles semi-final after beating Indonesia’s Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan in the quarter-final of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, on Friday,
November 18, in Hong Kong.
The World Number Four, Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong have been performing well for the last 10 months and have defeated many top pairs on numerous occasions. They emerged as the winner against the World Number Nine pair of Alvent Yulianto and Hendra Aprida in
a thrilling fight which ended up in three games of 49 minutes.
The first game of this entertaining fight was completely one-sided way as the Korean duo took it with a huge margin. However, the Indonesians made a strong come back in the second set of the match and won it with a decent difference. In the final set, the
Koreans controlled the pace and took the game with a reasonable score.
Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong played to their maximum potential in the first set of the game and found no resistance from their Indonesian Opponents in the whole set. They played flawless badminton and took the opening game easily by putting up 21-9 score on
the board in just 13 minutes.
The second set was different when Alvent Yulianto and Hendra Aprida elevated their game and played aggressive badminton. They remained close against their higher ranked Koreans until the concluding phase. The Korean duo committed a few mistakes at this crucial
stage and lost the set with a margin of 18-21 in 19 minutes.
The final set of this action-packed quarter-final fight was interesting when both sides remained close until the end of the first half. However, Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong played positive and controlled game in the second half of the deciding set and won it
in 17 minutes with 21-15 margin on the score board. The Korean’s won the match with a 21-9, 18-21 and 21-15 score.
In the Men’s Doubles semi-final, Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong will take on either their team mates Jung Jae Sung – Lee Yong Dae or Hirokatsu Hashimoto – Noriyasu Hirata of Japan.
