Hong Kong Open Super Series: Lee Chong Wei beats Ajay Jayaram to set a semi-final clash with Lin Dan
Malaysia’s ace shuttler, Lee Chong Wei continues his peerless run as he has set a semi-final clash with his arch rival Lin Dan of China in the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series. In Men’s Singles quarter-final, the Malaysian defeated India’s Ajay Jayaram,
on Friday, November 18, in Hong Kong.
The World Number One Chong Wei strolls in the event without losing even a singles game throughout the previous round matches. He crushed the Indian the top-8 stage in just 31 minutes. The top seed finished up the battle in straight games by putting up phenomenal
show of highest class badminton.
The first game of this Men’s Singles match started in an interesting style when both players remained toe-to-toe in the first half. Jayaram was matching the speed of his rival in the opening half and remained close until the break. Chong Wei was quite relaxed
but quicker in taking the bird early.
After the break, Chong Wei accelerated his speed and dictated the pace of the game to make his opponent move around in the court and earned points by perfectly placing his smashes. The top seed won the first game in 17 minutes without facing any hurdle at
any stage of the net with a margin of 21-16.
The second game of the battle was thrilling in the start where Indian shuttler played wonderful game this time. However, the experienced Chong Wei took over without wasting any time and changed his tactics to get an upper hand in the match. He continued
putting more and more speed and power in his strokes. Until the interval, the top seed was in a comfortable position by having a good lead.
The following part of the second game was quite interesting when Chong Wei became aggressive and shoed his class by perfectly putting his strokes in the right areas. He spared no chance for the Indian to come back in the match. The top seed finished off
the second game with a one-sided margin of 21-13. The Malaysian took the match with a 21-16 and 21-13 margin in just 31 minutes.
In the Men’s Singles semi-final, Chong Wei will be up against the ruling World and Olympic Champion, Lin Dan of China, who crushed Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in the other quarter-final.
