Hong Kong Open Super Series: Lin Dan continues his authority over top seed Lee Chong Wei
China’s Lin Dan, the most successful players in the history of badminton, continues his authority over the World Number One and top seed, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, by beating him in the Men’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, in
Hong Kong, on Saturday, November 19.
People love to watch these two shuttlers in action as both have the skills and talent which no other shuttler has at present. However, the match went against the expectations of many who were thinking of a thrilling contest between two most complete and
successful shuttlers in the world of badminton, as the Chinese won it in a convincing way by finishing it in straight sets.
Chong Wei again failed to produce the required confidence to dominate the game against the Chinese. He was leading the opening game but failed to play well in the concluding phase of the game. In the second game, he remained close to his rival but failed
again failed to convert it into a win as the Chinese delivered superb performance and took the match.
Both shuttlers opened the game in an interesting was when both heroes opened their journey in a fast manner. Chong Wei was relying on his wonderful smashes while Lin remained focused and played incredible defensive strokes and executed fast drives to make
his opponents moving around in the court.
Chong Wei remained ahead in the opening half but failed to play well in the concluding part of the opening game. Lin accelerated his speed and controlled the pace of rallies and won the set with a margin of 21-16.
In the second game of the match, both shuttlers again put up a wonderful show of top class badminton as they played with perfection. However, Chong Wei again delivered a quivering performance in the second half of the game and also committed some unforced
errors.
On the other hand, the World Number Three Lin remained confident and composed until the end of the game and took it with a 21-14 margin. The final result of this 46-minute semi-final contest was 21-16 and 21-14.
In the final showdown, Lin will take on his compatriot and former World Champion, Chen Jin who defeated his team-mate Chen Long in the other semi-final.
