Hong Kong Open Super Series: Saina Nehwal crushes Jie Yao in the Women’s Singles round-of-16
India’s Saina Nehwal continues her winning run as she has crushed Netherlands’ Jie Yao in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 contest of the 2011 Hong Kong Open Super Series, on Thursday, November 17, in Hong Kong.
Saina, who is World Number Four at the moment, has outclassed her opponent in aspects of the game. She ended up the straight set fight in tremendous fashion by taking just 37 minutes of the court time.
In the first game, both ladies played attacking badminton and drew the attention of local crowd with the cracking sounds of their strokes. They missed no chance to bury the bird by hitting powerful smashes and entertained the fans with their top class skills.
The score remained close in the starting points of the opening set and both ladies maintained a wonderful pace of the game.
Nehwal managed a gap of 11-9 in the opening half of the first game. She controlled the pace of the game in the second part of the set and maintained the difference throughout the whole game. Jie tried to cope up with the speed of her opponent but failed
to play positive badminton. Nehwal got an advantage in the match by winning the first game with a margin of 21-17, in 19 minutes.
In the following set of this pre-quarter-final fight, Nehwal accelerated her speed of the game from the opening points. She played a planned and perfect game and spared no chance for her rival to put up strong resistance in the whole game. Until the break,
Saina was moving ahead of the Dutch shuttler.
The aggressive approach of Nehwal helped her to maintain the difference in the second half of the second set. She remained composed and bagged the game with a margin of 21-17, in 18 minutes.
This Women’s Singles round-of-16 battle finished off in straight sets with an overall score of 21-17 and 21-17.
In the quarter-final of the championship, the fourth seed Nehwal will be up against the seventh seed Tine Baun of Denmark, who defeated Li Michelle of Canada in a straight-set battle in the previous round.
