Hong Kong Open Super Series: Tine Baun strolls into Women’s Singles second round – Badminton news
Denmark’s ace shuttler, Tine Baun strolls into the Women’s Singles second round after putting up strong show against Iris Wang of USA in the first round of the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open Super Series 2011, on Wednesday, November 16, in Hong Kong.
The World Number Seven Baun, who is also the seventh seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the event, displayed wonderful skills against the USA shuttler and won the battle in straight sets by working well for 25 minutes in the court. She proved her dominance
throughout the whole match by playing flawless badminton.
Baun controlled the pace of the game right from the starting points of the opening set as she was very quick in picking the bird early from the net and also from rear-court area.
Nevertheless, Iris also played top standard badminton in the starting rallies but failed to continue it as she started to make errors. Baun got advantage of the negative strokes of her opponent and won the set with a score of 21-14, in just 13 minutes.
In the following game of this Women’s Singles first round match, Baun went all out to dominate the game with a wonderful control in her wrist. She made her opponent work really hard to get the bird from all corners of the court. Her impressive strokes landed
in the perfect areas and she earned a strong position by setting up a reasonable lead in the second game.
Until the interval, Baun established a four-point lead by reaching 11-7. Iris tried to level the score in the first half as she started to play attacking badminton but she could not employ her strokes effectively and the failed to destroy the defence of
her higher ranked rival.
After the break, Iris again accelerated her speed at the net to dominate the rallies but her opponent was playing perfect strokes in all corners of the court. Baun continued her impressive winning run in the concluding part of the match and won it with a
wonderful margin of 21-12 in just 12 minutes.
This 25-minute match ended up in two games with a 21-14 and 21-12 margin on the score board.
