Hong Kong hoping of hosting a Formula 1 grand prix one day – Formula 1 news
The Automobile Association of Hong Kong has stated that they would like to hold a Formula 1 race in the city one day.
The Chinese Grand Prix already takes place in the sport but since it is held in Shanghai, the people of Hong Kong would like to see a race in their city as well for which they would have to build a new track there and probably hold the Chinese Grand Prix
at that venue.
The Asian circuits are not appreciated much by the fans as most of them including Bahrain and Abu Dhabi are not ‘overtake-friendly.’ As a result, the fans want to see more races in places like the United States and Russia or mainly the legendary European
tracks like Monte Carlo, Imola etc.
Recently, Jaime Alguersuari from Toro Rosso demonstrated a drive in a Formula 1 car using his Red Bull car. After looking at his run and the functionality of a Formula 1 car, Wesley Wan, a member of the Automobile Association of Hong Kong stated that he
would love to bring the sport to Hong Kong one day.
“This is the first step in gaining the support of the people. My dream is that Hong Kong, like Singapore, Malaysia and China, will be a stop on the grand prix circuit. And as far as a street circuit is concerned, if Monte Carlo and Singapore can have it,
why can't Hong Kong?” he told the media.
Other than that, he stated that back in 1997, there was a track in Hong Kong which was expected to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix but due to some reasons, it had to be cancelled by the officials of the sport.
With all these new venues coming in to the sport, most of the teams have stated that even if the organisers of the sport bring in new venues, they should not increase the length of the season to more than 20 races.
Let’s see whether Hong Kong gets its dream fulfilled in the years to come.
