Hong Kong’s Nan Wei stuns Ajay Jayaram in Men’s Singles second round at Badminton Asia Championships
Hong Kong’s young player Nan Wei defied all odds when he stunned the higher ranked Ajay Jayaram of India in Men’s Singles second round at the Badminton Asia Championships 2012 on Wednesday, April 18, in China.
The lower ranked Nan played remarkable game and thrashed the World Number 27 Jayaram who was 15th seed in Men’s Singles draw of the Asia Championships.
Nan showed his elevated skills while playing in the court as he did not let his opponent to take charge of game and won the fight in three sets by taking 59 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Jayaram could not prove his superiority while playing against Nan and crashed out in the second round of the tournament without creating an impact.
The first set of this Men’s Singles contest was mouth-watering when both shuttlers showed their impressive performance while playing at their best speed.
They kept the pace high and also employed aggressive shots to earn lead but no one could establish a reasonable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, they continued their thrilling run in the contest while remaining close on the board.
The score was 22-22 when Nan played slightly better game and managed to bag the opening set with a dramatic score of 24-22.
In the second set, Jayaram changed his game plan and managed to take a wonderful lead in the opening half. He was miles ahead of Nan until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Nan became quicker at net but failed to take any advantage as his Indian opponent was far superior this time.
The Hong Kong shuttler could not match the speed of Jayaram and lost the contest with a one-sided score of 11-21.
In the deciding set, Nan played fabulous badminton as he kept his opponent under pressure by playing to his full potential and managed to set up a reasonable lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Nan continued his aggressive and positive run in the battle and took the set with a six-point advantage of 21-15.
Nan won this thrilling rubber-set fight in 59 minutes with a remarkable margin of 24-22, 11-21 and 21-15.
