Hong Lee trounces Adulrach Namkul in Men’s Singles qualifying round – Thailand Open Update
Korea’s Hong Je Lee had a perfect start in SCG Thailand Open as he stamped Adulrach Namkul in opening match of qualifying round on June 5, 2012 in Bangkok.
However, it was not a smooth ride for him as he had to sweat hard in three gruelling sets before putting favourable figures of 21-10, 19-21 and 21-15 on the board.
Now he will have to surpass Taipei shuttler Shao Wen Hsu to secure berth in main round of the event.
Earlier in opening contest, he registered his presence by exhibiting unbeatable skills in court. He started this marathon with a staggering knock in first set of the match.
Hong Lee, who has been ranked fourth in qualifying round, launched a brisk attack and made his intentions clear by clinching five consecutive points straight away in the start.
He kept the bird completely under his control and shuttlecock kept landing in right areas. He dictated the opposing shuttler until half time and enjoyed one-minute rest as leading contender in 11-4 score.
The Korean doubled the lead immediately after the interval and placed a formidable total of 16-4 which proved final blow to his rival.
Adulrach Namkul could not lift the burden of this deficit and knelt down after reading disgraceful margin of 10-21.
However, the Thai campaigner showed strong character in following game as he bounced back with a strong reply.
In first half, he was bit confuse and took some time to read his opponent’s game but later part of game saw him at his best.
Though, Adulrach Namkul was six steps behind his challenger in 5-11 score before the interval but he employed unusual tactics in final stage of set.
He caught Hong Lee at 12-12 and then did not allow him to strike back. He finished this tussle with 21-19.
Third and final set kept swinging between two contenders until mid-game break as they were locked at 11-10 but second half completely belonged to the Korean who made difference with some nonstop rallies.
Hong Lee sealed his victory over native shuttler with a significant lead of six points in final total of 21-15.
