Hong Wei, Shen Ye cast out Guo Zhendong, Xu Chen in second round of 2012 Li Ning China Masters
Men’s Doubles experts Hong Wei and Shen Ye played with great precision and overwhelmed Guo Zhendong–Xu Chen in the second round of the Li Ning China Masters on September 13, 2012.
Both compatriot teams remained head-to-head for 33 minutes before reading the final figures of 21-18 and 21-16.
This pre quarter-final match was played at the local badminton arena of Changzhou in China as both pairs entertained their supporters with a splendid show of skills.
The victorious duo proved they were superior in all areas of the game and locked the honour with a straight-set victory.
World Number 11 pair Hong Wei-Shen Ye gained early advantage in match score position and maintained the upper hand all the way to the final moments.
They set the ball rolling immediately in first set and blew away their challengers with an impressive knock.
In the first half of the set, Guo Zhendong and Xu Chen struggled to get on the right track and trailed behind the opposing team until the break. They looked confused and could not withstand the intensive campaign of their competitors.
The twosome of Hong Wei and Shen Ye capitalised their initial lead and piled an indomitable margin of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game was full of drama as they lost focus in third quarter of the set and allowed the opposing team to equal the score at 16-16.
However, they did not lose their nerve and swept the table with a respectable difference in decisive figure of 21-18.
The second set remained interesting until one-minute break as Guo Zhendong-Xu Chen hardly put any resistance in later part of the game.
Hong Wei and Shen Ye proved themselves late bloomers as they kept on trailing behind until 4-8 but then turned the tables in the next couple of rallies.
Though, first half of the set ended with a tight margin of 11-9 but story was entirely different after the mid-game break.
Hong Wei and Shen Ye raised their lead to five points and claimed the victory with a favourable result of 21-16.
Now they will be up against Songphon Anugritayawon-Sudket Prapakamol in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
