Hong Wei, Shen Ye crash out of Men’s Doubles second round – China Open Update
It was a disappointing day for Hong Wei and Shen Ye as they had to face an early exit from Li Ning China Open after losing a second round match on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
The lower ranked but spirited duo Shin Baek Choel-Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea put their expedition to a halt in this Super Series.
This Men's Doubles pre quarter-final tussle ended in just two games as the Chinese campaigners could resist only for 38 minutes before losing with 21-15 and 21-16 margin.
World Number ten duo, who was one of the frontrunners in this tournament, put a below par performance and crashed out in a woeful manner.
Hong Wei and Shen Ye lost control straight away in the beginning of first set as they could not read their rivals’ game and stayed at the lower end.
On the other hand, Baek Choel and Yeon Seong relished full benefits of their competitors’ blunders and piled up a decent figure of 6-3.
This initial lead provided the Korean players required momentum and they never looked back after getting on the right track.
At mid-game break, they were enjoying a significant lead in 11-7 margin and widened this gap by grabbing a couple of consecutive points.
Though, Hong Wei and Shen Ye strived hard to counter-balance the situation but their bad patch continued in the final stage.
They managed to reach a respectable score position of 15 but then gave up this futile chase after reading the decisive margin of 15-21.
The local audience was expecting the native shuttlers to bounce back in the contest but it was sheer disappointment for them in the second set.
Hong Wei and Shen Ye failed to come out of their challengers’ influence and faced a straight-set defeat.
The Korean players mounted pressure with 4-0 and then magnified the impact by finishing first half of the set with an indomitable score of 11.
They played with similar conviction after the one-minute break and cornered their higher ranked opponents with an amazing performance.
Hong Wei and Shen Ye kept on dropping valuable points and this ultimately resulted in their 16-21 defeat.
