Honorio Machado wins the fifth stage 2011 Vuelta Ciclista A Venezuela
Alcaldia De Valencia team’s Honorio Machado showed his good effort and won the fifth stage and also took the overall lead in 2011 Vuelta Ciclista a Venezuela on Sunday, July 17.
The race stared in Chaguaramas and ended in S. Juan De Los Morros. The 28-year-old Machado took a total of 3 hours, 44 minutes and 36 seconds to cover the distance of 178.1 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Machado said, "This win boosts morale us because after losing the lead was down slightly in the minds of all elements quip, but today we learned from the mistakes. I made in the fourth stage when I went in the wrong time.”
He further added, “Then, I knew not finish in the final packaging and Quevedo UBET advantage. Today was another story and again we have the lead in Tour still has far to go nothing is certain yet."
Previously, Machado grabbed the first place in Clasico Corre Por La Vida and also took the sixth and tenth stage of Vuelta a Venezuela in 2009.
Marvin Angarita of Movistar team was the runner-up and Miguel Ubeto of Loteria tachira-drodi finished in the third spot.
Jose Velazquez (Fu.Dijogreca-Nva. Esp), Richard Ochoa (Alcaldia De Valencia) and Camilo Ulloa (Boyaca Orgullo De Ame) were in fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Wiston Camargo of F.N.Cabrera-Gb.Trujil was in good form and tried his best to catch the 46 riders, but failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 47th place with a difference of 13 seconds.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway including, Tomas Teresen (Tomas Teresen-Monagas), Hector Gonzalez (Tomas Teresen-Monagas) and Xavier Quevedo (F.N.Cabrera-Gb.Trujil). All of them managed to gain a lead of few seconds over the peloton,
while Tomas took a lead in the first sprint.
Herberth Rivas managed to take a lead in the second sprint ahead of Angel Rivas. With a few kilometres to go, Fernando launched the attack, but Miguel and Xavier failed to catch him. However, in the fourth sprint Manuel increased his pace and took a lead
with 4 points.
Carlos Galviz of Movistar took the overall mountain classification with 9 points ahead of Rolando Trujillo and Jhon Nava. Miguel Ubeto took the overall sprint standings with 14 points, ahead of Wilmen Bravo.
Machado took the overall standing with a timing of 14 hours, 35 minutes and 53 seconds. Miguel Ubeto was the runner-up with a difference of 2 seconds, while Marvin Angarita finished third with 8 seconds behind Machado.
The next stage will start in Ortiz and end in Maracay. All the cyclists will cover the distance of 155.9 kilometres.
