In these sentences which would be capitalized

1. The Maxwells enjoyed visiting the southwest, particularly the Alamo in San Antonio. (main q- is southwest capitalized?)

2. This semester I have english, american history, and spanish in the morning, and Industrial Arts I in the afternoon. ( i am pretty sure english is not capitalized)

3. Awe-struck, the tourists paused to admire the sphinx . (is it The Sphinx or is it just the Sphinx?)

I appreciate it if you could help me! ten points to best descriptive answer

  1. 1. Capitalize Southwest-- you don't capitalize directions, but do capitalize a place.

    2. Capitalize English, American, and Spanish... Not Arts like you did. You capitalize subjects that are languages or countries.

    3. You only need to capitalize Sphinx. I can't really state a rule, other than it just isn't capitalized.
