ok i dont even know where to start...and the book doesnt explain it really.

Different round-trip airfares from Boston to various cities are shown in the table below

Distance 400 850 1600 2600 5100

Cost 118 198 298 3590 400

a. using this data, sketch a graph of the cost as a function of distance

b. does it appear that a linear function would give good approximations to this cost function? explain.

i hate the word problems...please help and thankies

  1. Distance on the x-axis

    Cost on the y-axis

    Plot the points on your Cartesian plane.  Then try to see if the points are fairly much in a straight line.. if it is, then a linear line will be pretty good for approximating costs given distance.
