Honors algebra class is WAYY harder than i expected!?

I got into honors algebra, and I've been skeptical since i saw my schedule, cause i didn't think I'd get in, and none of my closest friends did. today in it we started doing actual work and we did this "test" thing.

I did not get 90% of the questions on that test.

And my friends who are in that class didn't get it either, but i'm getting scared about this class... i dont think i can last the whole school year in it.

I would get it changed but i'd hate to back out of it if its not as bad as it seemed, and the only day i can possibly change it is tomorrow.

Is it possible that i'm freaking out about this for no reason? The only thing thats making me stay in this class is the fact that my friends didnt get the test either

just... post your opinions

  1. I don't know what grade you're in, since that makes a difference. If you are in 8th or 9th grade, and this is your first time having honors classes, don't worry. The work will be harder and difficult. You'll study harder and get used to it. This was the first test- a way for you to know what you have to learn. Don't freak out, just calm down and pay attention. Your friends didn't get the test either - it's difficult. I started Honors Math and Honors Earth Science in 8th grade, did terribly in earth science in the beginning of the year, by the end I had an A, and got Achievement Award in Math. I freaked out in the beginning of the year too like you. Don't freak out. Ask the teacher for help, to explain if you want, but don't get scared.

  2. i had a similar experience with an honors chemistry class and i too wanted to drop it after the first couple of days, but i decided to stay in it and was glad i did because i ended up learning a lot more. the test you took was probably just for your teacher to see where everyone is with the math. in the end do whatever you feel most comfortable with doing.

    best of luck

  3. If you get a test on your first or second day back to school its probably just to evaluate where the class is, in other words, what they know and don't know. It lets the teacher know what the class already knows, and what he needs to teach. If the test wasn't for a grade it was definitely just to see where abouts the class was.

If you weren't the only one that was completely confused, don't worry about it. The teacher is gonna see that 99% of the kids don't know this or that and so he'll teach it to everyone. If you were the only one, who cares! You might just have a bit of a summer hangover. I wouldn't stress over it.

I had a calculus packet one year in High School and my teacher told everyone that it was worth a test grade when we returned from Summer break. Turns out everything on the packet was stuff that we would learn DURING that year, and so out of 100 problems, everyone got like 5 right. You know what? As long as we attempted to complete the packet we recieved full credit on the packet. Your in a similar situation, and If you really don't feel comfortable in the class, you do what you think is best. Good luck in whatever class you choose.
