For part of the assignment,we had to read the book "speak" and then write about a time we chose to speak up or out and then a time where we kept silent. I'm having trouble coming up with an example for the former idea. I just need examples that can help me relate to a time for myself or get the basic idea of what i'm supposed to be writing. Any suggestions are appreciated

  1. You never chose to keep silent about something?  How about a time someone swore you to secrecy, asked you to keep a confidence?  Weren't you DYING to tell someone?  How difficult was it?  In the novel, Miranda is suffering because she has chosen to keep her rape a secret.  How did you "suffer" or have an inner conflict because you knew you should share the confidence with someone, but you didn't want to betray your friend?

  2. it could be something like if you or someone you know, cheated on a test, stole something, lied to your parents.  You should probably talk about the guilt or pressure built up from (not)speaking and then how your decision affected your life or relationships

  3. Have you ever witnessed an injustice - like a kid at school being picked on by bullies - and said something to stop it?

Have you ever done something to bring attention to a situation that you want to see changed (a neighborhood problem, a situation at school, etc)?

Do you have a sibling or know someone who is may be too afraid to say something so you said it for them?

Those  are the kinds of things that they're looking for
