Question:

Honors or Regents Chemistry?

I don't know if I should take honors or regents chemistry. Right now I have regents chem on my schedule but I'm thinking of changing it.

I'm a sophmore and the other classes I'm taking are:

Math B (I'm a year ahead in math), English Honors, Global History 2 Honors, and regular Spanish 10. They offer A.P. European History for social studies and I'm not taking that so I'm worried if I should take more honors or not. I heard chem is really hard, much harder than bio. I took honors living environment (biology) last year and I got an A in the class and a 92 on the NY state regents. I heard that there's a lot of math in chem, I got an A+ in math last year and a 96 on the NY state math A regents. I know that's good but I just heard chem is much harder than bio and I don't know if it's worth the risk. I am allowed to drop out after 5 weeks but it could mess up my whole schedule if there's not a regents and honors class in the same period.

I'd just like to know: What's the difference between honors and regents chem? Is one much harder than the other? Is it even important to take honors chem when I'm already a year ahead in science? I do know that you study for the SAT2 in honors chem which I think may be important for me because I didn't take the Sat2 in bio. Oh and how many SAT2s do I need to get into a good college? (doesn't have to be Ivy League, but a decent school) Sorry, I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I am just really stressed about this! All help is greatly appreciate, and best answer always awarded!

P.S: I go to Roslyn High School (Long Island, New York) if that makes a difference

  1. I would definitely take honors if I were you. At my school there were only slight differences where the honors would hafta memorize formulas or stuff that the other chem classes wouldn't have to, but it was no big deal. Honors for sure

  2. you're lucky that you even have honors chem available at your school. at my school all we have is regular non honors chem and ap chemistry which is equivalent to a first year college general chemistry course. if you were reccomended then i say you follow your reccomendation and take honors chem.

  3. there isnt alot of math in chemistry. you will just need to know your basic algebra. High school chem (even when it is called honors) is probably not as hard as general college chemistry so im assuming it will be hard but doable- probably like intro to chem at any college.
