    Hooke's Law States that F= -kx, F being the force applied, k being the spring constant, and x being the distance in meters.

    You can convert inches into meters and pounds into newtons and then convert back to pounds at the very end of the problem.


  2. 14/44 = 35/x

    x = 35 * 44 / 14

  3. F1=k*dx1

    F2=k*dx2

    so if you divide the two equations:

    F1/F2=dx1/dx2

    35/x=14/44

    x=35*44/14

    x=110 pounds
