  1. Definitely go with Sceptic's suggestion.

Your Harmon Kardon only has switching, which means it can pass-through the video but will not process any part of the signal, hence no audio.

A receiver with HDMI listed as "Repeater" will give you audio.

  2. tell the PS3 to turn on the optical out.  hook up the analog outputs as well since it wont use the digital out for analog titles.

    edit

hdmi is supposed to carry sound, I understand that but in a game machince it may not per title.

  3. check your settings on the ps3 make sure hdmi is enabled, aslo make sure the HK rcvr is set to see hdmi on the input you plugged it in to, some rcvr's do require hdmi for vid and opt/or digi coax / analog for sound..........consult manuals if you have them........

  4. I am assuming your Harman Kardon receiver has no HDMI connection, so the way to install it is to follow this direction that I gave another asker in this site who has a similar situation as you. I also my system this way.

In your PS3 settings, keep the video at HDMI, then go down to the audio setting and change it from HDMI to optical out, this way you can watch the video on HDMI (through your TV) and the sound will go through your receiver's optical audio in and you will have HD video with Dolby Digital. This set up means that the sound will not come out through the TV.
