Question:

Hooking up an Amp to a Powerd Reciever?

The Receiver is an H&K 2 channel with 60 watts per channel, the amp is 225 watts at 8 ohms per channel(x2). Can a powered receiver be hooked up to an amp like this? I am not sure on how to do this, if it can be done. The speakers for my home theater can handle 1000 Watts.

  1. If your receiver has "line-out" terminals, then hook those to the "input" terminals of your 225W amp. If it doesn't you could take the "speaker" output of your receiver, but then you will be amplifying the noise generated on the power section of your receiver. This is not recommended.

  2. Really, all you have to do is connect the 2-channel amplifier to the receiver via the receiver's main pre-outs to the outboard amps inputs, and then connect the front L&R speakers to the outboard amp and you're in business with full effect!

  3. no it cannot be done easily.

to get signal into an AMP you normally require a pre-amp (no amplifier)

Just because your speakers say 1000watts on them does not mean you need more power. HK receiver should have more than what you need for the average size home with almost any speaker.

If you do still want to add that extra amp - goto to local hifi shop ( not bestbuy) and they can assist. there could be some ineexpensive pre-amps or even used ones available. they can assist with hookup also
