Hooking up gps to car stereo while playing ipod?

Hey guys, this is what i want to accomplish. I mainly just play the ipod through a line out on the car stereo, i was curious if theres anyway to keep this setup in tact but also have the gps chime in through the car stereo when there is a voice prompt i need to follow. If possibly id like the gps to pretty much interupt the ipod and take over the input if possible so the ipod would be silenced while it gives me the turn direction and then the ipod would kick back in after that, is that possible in anyway?

  1. does your gps have a line out or does it have a fm transmitter?  if it has a line out just get an RCA splitter and in one side connect your ipod and the other your gps then plug it back into your radio.  it wont stop the ipod from playing but it will play it at the same time, maybe you could adjust the volume on the GPS so its louder then the ipod.

there may be some type of RCA splitter that cancels one channel out but i dont know, check around.
