Question:

Hooks from Scoliosis surgery sticking out...?

I'm 21 and had corrective scoliosis surgery (rods) when I was 13. Now some of the hooks are sticking out, and they cause pain. I have gone to my orthopedic surgeon and he said they ave inflammation under them and to take ibuprofin when they act up to reducce swelling. It does work and helps with the pain but I would like to know what is causing this in the first place. I am quite slim and he said they are more noticable because of that. I am going to see him again soon but I wondered if anyone has had similar experiences?

  1. My wife has Harrington rods in her back she had them put in 19 years ago and for the last 10 years she has had the same exact problem and she is also very slim.  now she had to go to a pain management doctor who prescribes her Oxycontin 20 mg 3 times a day and hydro codeine 7.5 mg 4 times a day.  No she is not doped up because she has had to take narcotics for so long that she no longer gets tired or doped up but they do give her a MUCH better quality life!
